Feliz Navidad and a happy holiday
Thank you to those who participated in last week’s challenge. We will return to the “commonly confused words” en enero (in January).
Christmas is less than 7 days away! The more that I teach Spanish; the more that I love to share about my culture.
I was born in Venezuela to Colombian parents. Christmas is an important tradition in Colombia. Today, I’m going to share with you one of my favourite traditions.
We grew up Catholic and this tradition is about the anticipation of the arrival of Baby Jesus. It starts on December 16th and goes until December 24th.
Each evening you go to a family or friends house to sing, pray and eat good food. I love the spirit of getting together and sharing. It gives us a chance to connect with others and celebrate this special time. I have fond memories as a little girl going to different folks’ places each night … running around playing and having fun. And of course the snacks merienda. I love talking about food. We drink hot chocolate chocolate caliente y buñuelos. A dough made of 3 cheeses and fried. YUMMY! Here’s a photo.

I would like to wish you a Feliz Navidad (Merry Christmas) and a happy holiday to you and yours! See you next year.
